Angel Food

It is hard to believe that it has been over two weeks since I blogged. I have several blog entries I have been meaning to do but haven't found the time. Today is my catch up day.

Saving money is on everyone mind now. I have been trying different things to try to lower my families grocery bill. I am planning on using the Farmers Market more this year than I have in the past years and planning meals more around what is in season. I may always trying freezing or canning (yikes).

One new thing I am trying is called Angel Food Ministries. Some of the area churches participate in this. There are no income guidelines for this program. Their line is if you eat you qualify. I figured out the prices using average prices found on the Internet and there is a savings. I got the bountiful blessings box which is $41.00. This box contained:
2lb. Beef Steak Burgers
2 lb. (avg) All Natural Boneless/Skinless
Chicken Breast (Tray Pack)
2 lb. Fully Cooked Meatloaf with Red Sauce
2 lb. Sloppy Joe Mix (seasoned beef & sauce)
2.5 lb. IQF Unbreaded Chicken Wings
1.5 lb. Whiting Fillets (6 x 4 oz.)
1.5 lb. Breaded Large Chicken Breast Chunks
1.5 lb. Smoked Sausage
1.5 lb. Fully Cooked Meatballs
1 lb. 100% Ground Turkey
1 lb. 3-way Veggie Blend
1 lb. Fresh/Frozen Butter Peas
1 lb. Mini Broccoli Florets
1 lb. Large Sliced Carrots
2 lb. Waffle Fries
1 lb. Spinach
28 oz. Baked Beans
12 oz. Egg Noodles
8 oz. Jambalaya Rice Mix
8 oz. Corn Muffin Mix
32 oz. Shelf-Stable 2% Milk
8 oz. Buttermilk Pancake Mix
1 doz. Eggs
Dessert

I also purchase an after school box for $24.00. That box contained:

2 lb. Breaded Chicken Fingers
1.5 lb. Breaded Chicken Wings
1.5 lb. Corn Dogs (3 x 8 oz. bags)
14 oz. Stuffed Breadsticks/Pizza Bites
4 ea. 2.8 oz. Peanut Butter and Jelly Jamwich
1 ea. 3 oz. Grilled Cheese Sandwich
2 ea. 4 oz. Pocket Sandwiches
2 ea. 3.7 oz. Beef Charbroil Sandwich w
Cheese (Twin Packs)
2 ea. 2.2 oz. PBJ on Graham Wafers
2 ea. 3.4 oz. Watermelon Italian Ice
2 ea. 3.2 oz. Raspberry Fruit Juice Sherbet

The savings was about $25 for the two packs I bought.

The food is okay. Some of it I am not fond of but it is all decent food and does save some money in our food budget. They have several options on each month's menu.

Here is the link to their website.

The Angel Food Ministries sounds really neat! I guess you can't have picky eaters like my son. It would work for me, my daughter and my husband. We eat just about anything!!!
Have a great week and thanks again!
